The Gothenburg Museum of Art, in collaboration with the Gothenburg Culture Festival, invites you to a captivating day filled with art and activities—all with free admission. We encourage you to explore our temporary exhibitions, including Monira Al Qadiri. Burning Desire and Apocalypse. From Last Judgment to Climate Threat. 12:00 – 12:30 Introduction to the Gothenburg Museum of Art
Welcome to an introduction to the Gothenburg Museum of Art in the Fürstenberg Gallery, one of the museum’s most appreciated exhibitions. As a center for industry, trade, and entrepreneurship, Gothenburg has since the 19th century been the home to several wealthy individuals with strong social and cultural interests, similar to the Fürstenbergs. This resulted in a culture of donations that has made the museum and its esteemed collection possible. During the introduction, you will get a taste of the museum’s more than hundred-year history and insight into what is currently exhibited in the museum’s halls.

13:00 -13:30 Apocalypse. From Last Judgement to Climate Threat
Depictions of the end of the world have long been a part of artistic expression. Today, the theme feels more relevant than ever. Fears of war and climate change heavily influence the current media landscape. The exhibition Apocalypse: From the Last Judgment to the Climate Threat places our contemporary anxieties in a historical context. Spanning 500 years of visual representations of catastrophe, the exhibition explores how the idea of an impending end has been portrayed in art through the ages. We move from the biblical Day of Judgment, through the violent volcanic eruptions of the Romantic era, to today's concerns about melting glaciers and artificial intelligence that could one day replace us.
This exhibition invites visitors on a journey through apocalyptic visions—images of doom that seem to have accompanied humanity throughout history. Welcome to an introduction to the exhibition!

14:00-14:30, Introduktion av Göteborgs konstmuseum
Välkommen på en introduktion av Göteborgs konstmuseum i Fürstenbergska galleriet, en av museets mest uppskattade delar. Som ett centrum för industri, handel och företagande har Göteborg sedan 1800-talet präglats av ett flertal förmögna personer med starka samhällsintressen, i likhet med paret Fürstenberg. Donationskulturen som följde har i hög grad gjort museet och dess ansedda samling möjlig. Under visningen bjuds det på ett smakprov ur museets mer än hundraåriga historia och ni ges också en inblick i vad som visas i museets salar idag.

15:00 – 15:30 Apokalyps. Från yttersta domen till klimathot
Framställningar av jordens undergång har länge funnits inom konsten. Inte minst idag är ämnet aktuellt. Oro för krig och klimatförändringar formar till stor del dagens medieklimat. Utställningen Apokalyps. Från yttersta domen till klimathot sätter vår tids oro i ett historiskt perspektiv. I utställningen visas 500 år av katastrofbilder och hur tanken på en kommande undergång har skildrats inom konsten. Vi rör oss från den bibliska domedagen genom romantikens våldsamma vulkanutbrott till dagens oro för smältande glaciärer och den AI som skulle kunna ersätta oss. Utställningen tar oss med på en resa av undergångsfantasier, som verkar ha följt med oss genom tiden. Välkommen på en introduktion till utställningen!
