What is CreArt 3.0?
CreArt 3.0 project aims to develop and expand the CreArt (Network of Cities for Artistic Creation) network in the field of visual arts in medium-sized European cities. Since 2012, the CreArt network has been exchanging experiences and best practices to promote contemporary art through a Europe-wide network collaboration and mobility program targeted at emerging artists, curators, and art and cultural professionals.
The main partner of the project is Fundación Municipal de Cultura FMC in the city of Valladolid, Spain, and the Cultural Services of the City of Oulu have a co-partner role in the extensive European consortium. Other co-implementers include the City of Rouen (France), the City of Clermont-Ferrand (France), the City of Lublin (Poland), Artkomas - The Kaunas Center for Creative Industries (Lithuania), the City of Skopje (Macedonia), the Croatian Association of Artists (Zagreb, Croatia), the City of Venice (Italy), the City of České Budějovice (Czech Republic), the cCty of Aveiro (Portugal), the City of Regensburg (Germany), and the Liepaja Culture Foundation (Latvia), as well as partners Atelierhaus Salzamt, Linz (Austria), Bluecoat, Liverpool (UK), and Lviv Artistic Council Dialogue (Ukraine).
Our aim in Oulu is to strengthen the development, professionalization, and internationalization of visual artists and the art field as part of the European cooperation network and the Oulu2026 cultural program, as well as to promote Oulu's goals in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of Media Arts.
What is The Nook?
The Nook project turns lifeless urban spaces into vibrant and experiential places, Nooks. For residents, these places appear for example as calming nests, cozy green and floral avenues, spots for admiring the Northern Lights, or as concrete communal changes to the everyday environment.
Our goal is to experiment with place-making and diversify the way we design public places in Oulu. With the downtown area changing due to several megatrends, we believe it’s important to make public spaces more diverse to accommodate the spatial needs of today. Public outdoor spaces don’t have to be just for getting from one place to another; they can also serve as genuine meeting and activity spots for people, almost like an extension of their homes.
The project will be implemented in collaboration with local and international partners from 2024 to 2026, as part of the Oulu2026 cultural programme.
