Faces Places by Agnés Varda and JR, 2017
1hr 30m
August 15, 8:30 pm - a free community program
In this charming and imaginative film, the 89-year-old legendary French New Wave film director Agnés Varda and the 33-year-old photographer, muralist, and street artist JR document their collaborative project during a road trip across France.
The film documents the unlikely duo as they journey through rural villages, capturing the portraits of the people they meet along the way. Their artistic process leads them to create large-scale portraits, which are then displayed on buildings and other public spaces, leaving a profound impact on both the subjects and the communities they visit. Faces Places is a profound exploration of art, human connection, and the power of shared experiences, bridging generational and cultural gaps through the simple act of portraiture.
The film won best documentary at Cannes in 2017 and was nominated for an Academy Award.
