We cordially invite you to a performative reading followed by a picnic. As part of their exhibitions at Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Krys Huba and Areez Katki continue their dialogue, now spilling beyond institutional architecture and into the cityscape. Starting in the exhibition spaces of Künstlerhaus Bethanien, the two artists will venture into the surrounding urban space between Kottbusser Tor and Schönleinstraße. During this shared walk, they take turns reading fragments of their writing. Time and again, they will pause to engage with the environment, tracing ways through it. Their movement through the city becomes a form of wayfinding, a method of navigating liminal spaces where bodies, language, and affect converge. In this process, the urban landscape transforms into a resonance chamber for shared, embodied experiences.
With “All of those records; tell me, bee” – the second chapter of the project Becoming B, curated by Marie-Sophie Dorsch – Krys Huba turns their gaze inwards: Based on the lyrical figure bee, they approach questions of queer identity and affiliations within normative social structures. bee itself materializes in the exhibition only in traces that are perpetuated in paintings, poetic text fragments and sculptural objects. Through image and text, a variety of connecting lines emerge between the works, which are not fixed, but constantly merge into new formations.
Areez Katkis has constructed “How to puncture the sky and hear the stones sing” as a multi-layered, atmospheric experience: Top/Center/Bottom. The novel is presented here at Künstlerhaus Bethanien as an experiment, in the form of a prelude of works that manifest themselves in space, sound and text. The works reflect the micro-stories, fragments and poetic traces from which Areez Katki has been developing an experimental novel project for six years. Reflecting on concepts of embodied hybridity and (extra)ordinary affects that are carried across continents with currents and winds, Areez Katki’ s narrative instance finds the polyphony that arises when there is no solid ground to stand on.
