While I have been a fan of Kris Delmhorst's for years, and have presented Railway concerts on and off since 2001, I've never had the chance to host her for one of my shows. I'm pleased to be remedying that this month.Please join us on Sunday November 16th at 4pm at the next Railway show at Studio 9 in North Adams.
Kris has just released her 10th album earlier this year, Ghosts in the Garden, to great reviews! It's been called "a grand seduction of a record by an artist who has always been true to her heart and has perfected the art of digging deep to deliver spirited, nourishing compositions with lyrics which do far more than rhyme...Delmhorst doesn’t approach the genre like your typical singer-songwriter. She, instead, applies her vocals as but one of so many different colors. Little surprise that the Brooklyn-born singer first trained as both cellist and fiddler in her earlier life, which might explain her penchant for applying musical textures to her work, rather than follow the traditional path of the singer-songwriter." We have a special guest opening for Kris, my friend and another Railway alum Karyn Oliver is passing through our area. She played the Railway when we were at Gallery 51 on Main St. Karyn Oliver is part Joan Osborne, a touch of Janis Joplin and a bit of Emmylou Harris – her seductive voice effortlessly oscillates from bluesy soul to country and back.
