Experience the King of Carnival! The Krewe of Rex is the official monarch of Mardi Gras, parading on Fat Tuesday since 1872.**Date & Time:** Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 10:30 AM
**Parade Route:**
• Starts at Napoleon Avenue & S. Claiborne Avenue
• Proceeds south to St. Charles Avenue, turns east (left)
• Follows St. Charles to Lee Circle, around the circle back northward
• Turns southeast on Canal Street
• Ends at Canal & South Peters Street
**About Krewe of Rex:**
With grand traditions, rich themes, elaborate costumes and hand-painted floats, Rex is the King of Carnival. Founded in 1872, Rex is one of the oldest participating groups in Mardi Gras and has held more parades than any other organization.
**Historic Significance:**
• Established the official Mardi Gras colors: purple, green, and gold
• Introduced the collectible doubloon coins in 1960
• Official song: "If Ever I Cease to Love"
• Rex's identity is revealed on Lundi Gras when the mayor hands him the symbolic key to the city
**Parade Details:**
• 26 hand-painted floats
• 440 male riders
• Parades immediately after Krewe of Zulu
**Admission:** FREE street-side viewing along the parade route
