🚨 NEW EVENT 🚨Konpa Workshop & Guided Social on Sunday, 9th February ✨️
Dance style & Origin:
Konpa is dance from Haiti in the Caribbean. It began in the late 1950s, initially taking elements from Dominican Merengue, Haitian Mereng and other dances. Konpa music has evolved over the years, and is one of the main inspirations for Zouk and Kizomba music. It involves a lot of hip swaying, gentle footwork, and turns. It is characterised by smooth, fluid movements. Dance partners tend to hold each other in a close embrace.
The Workshop:
FUNdementals workshop with Nicolas will equip you with the core principles, techniques and basic steps, so you can dance confidently & with connection! 💃🕺 Come learn this dance style & move to different music! 🎶 Open to all levels and no partner needed.
Schedule:
14:00-15.30 - 1hr30min Workshop with Nicolas + Vaso (as support)
15:30-16:00 - 30min Guided Social
Teachers:
🕺Nicolas has been dancing for 10 years, with experience in Kizomba, Konpa and Bachata. His recent love for Konpa was inspired by attending lessons by international sensation and teacher of Konpa, Bev Flowers. He actively attends Konpa classes and socials in London and abroad to expand his knowledge of the dance, and he taught his first ever Konpa class last year, at SBK in the Open!
💃 Vaso has been dancing various styles collectively for 7 years, and received her dance teacher certification 2 years ago. Although predominantly an Urban Kiz instructor, she aspires to introduce new dance styles to her local communituy, and is passionate about encouraging self-expression on the dancefloor!
