Join Koletivo Sin Nombre, Woy Magazine, cinéSPEAK and Gloria Rolando for a screening of El Alacrán, a film on Havana’s Carnival comparsa, and a discussion on the Carnival in both Cuba and Haiti - and its connection to cultural resistance. Celebrate Afro-Cuban heritage and Caribbean solidarity!

Gloria Rolando is a visionary filmmaker who illuminates Afro-Cuban history, culture and resistance.

El Alcarán (The Scorpion) is about carnaval in Havana and one comparsa especially, which was founded in 1908 and dedicated to Yemaya.

Accessibility: Making Worlds is an ADA-accessible space on the ground floor. The event setup is flexible and can accommodate a variety of needs. The bathroom is also ADA accessible with transfer rails (note: the door is not automatic). This is not a scent-free space. Please contact us with any questions or requests for specific accommodations.
Parking/Transportation: Street parking is available but somewhat limited. Making Worlds is a short distance from the 34 Trolley 45th street stop and the MFL 46th street stop, and near several bus lines.

Out of concern for everyone’s well-being as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic linger with us and expose new needs and vulnerabilities in our communities, we strongly suggest advance registration to our events.
Attendees are requested to wear masks at all times during the event. Please note that some events may require mandatory mask wearing.
