About this Event
Early Years is often the most misunderstood phase of a school, yet itβs the foundation of your inspection grade.
This session bridges the gap between the Senior Leadership Team and the Foundation Stage. You don't need to be an EYFS specialist to be an effective leader of it. We provide the frameworks to track progress, evaluate quality, and articulate your EYFS story with confidence during professional dialogues and inspections.
Training Objectives
Statutory Framework
Understand the core principles of the 2023 Statutory Framework and other key DfE guidance documents relevant to your setting.
Quality Assurance
Learn how to evaluate teaching and learning effectively. Move beyond data to look at the "Unique Child" and "Enabling Environments".
Planning & Assessment
Review requirements for assessment to inform teaching. Understand the cycle of Observation, Assessment, and Planning.
The Role of the Adult
High-quality interactions are the cornerstone of effective early years practice. We will explore how to move from "talking to" to "talking with".
- ShREC Approach: Share attention, Respond, Expand, Conversation.
- Sustained Shared Thinking: Working together to solve problems.
- Environment: Using the environment to spark curiosity.
Transition | EYFS to Key Stage 1
Ensuring a smooth transition requires understanding the pedagogical shift from EYFS to KS1.
EYFS Approach
- Play-based & Exploratory
- Holistic Curriculum
- Continuous Provision
- Focus on Prime Areas
Key Stage 1 Approach
- More structured timetable
- Subject-led National Curriculum
- Formal assessments
- Goal: Gradual increase in structure
A developmentally appropriate Year 1 builds on the best of Foundation Stage practice.
