About this Event
Join me for a full day of curl education designed to give professional stylists a deeper understanding of curly and coily hair, from cutting and styling fundamentals to product selection, formulation, and working with different textures.
This class will feature two live models, allowing us to work through real hair, real texture, and real world decision making throughout the day. Your ticket will include lunch and a goody bag.
SESSION 1
Curl Cutting & Styling Basics | 2B to 3B
We’ll start with a live model with 2B to 3B hair and break down the fundamentals of working with curly hair.
We’ll cover:
• Curl patterns, density, and how they affect your approach
• Creating a versatile haircut that can be worn both curly and straight, especially for clients who are learning how to work with and understand their natural curls
• The fundamentals of curly cutting
• Shape, balance, and creating volume
• How to approach cutting curly hair in its natural state
• Styling techniques for definition, volume, and longevity
• Product selection and application
• Understanding what the hair is communicating and adjusting your technique accordingly
This session is focused on building a strong foundation that you can take behind the chair and apply to your own curly clients, including clients who may still be figuring out their natural texture.
LUNCH BREAK
A lunch will be provided during our break between sessions.
SESSION 2
Coily Hair, Product Formulation & Beyond
Our second session will feature a live model with coily hair and take a deeper dive into the differences that come with working with tighter textures.
We’ll cover:
• Cutting techniques and considerations for coily hair
• Understanding density, shrinkage, texture, and shape
• Product formulation and how ingredients affect the hair
• How to choose products based on the individual needs of the hair rather than simply curl pattern
• Product recommendations for different hair types and concerns
• How to build a styling routine based on the hair’s needs
• Social media and presenting curly and coily work online
• Approaching curly and coily hair with more confidence behind the chair
This is a demonstration and education based class featuring live models and real examples. It is designed for stylists who want to better understand textured hair and feel more confident making informed decisions about cutting, styling, and product selection.
Whether you are new to working with curls or already have curly clients behind the chair, this class is designed to give you a deeper understanding of the hair you’re working with and the reasoning behind each decision.
