Ready to pick up a new skill or build on the ones you already have? Join us for Knitting Foundations, a hands-on knitting series at Beauregard Parish Library!
Whether you're picking up knitting needles for the first time or have years of experience, there's a place for you! Each session will begin with guided instruction on a specific knitting skill or technique, followed by time to practice, work on your own projects, ask questions, and connect with fellow knitters. ✨

Here's what we'll be learning throughout the series:
🧶 November 2026 | Getting Started
Learn to cast-on, knit, purl stitch, and read a simple pattern.
🧶 January 2027 | Building Your Knitting Skills
Review the basics, learn to fix mistakes, and explore knitting in the round, increasing, decreasing, and binding off.
🧶 February 2027 | Understanding Your Knitting
Learn to read your stitches, manage tension, and understand gauge.
🧶 March 2027 | Planning Your Knitting Projects
Explore project types, choosing and sourcing yarn, and finding patterns.
🧶 April 2027 | Expanding Your Knitting Techniques
Discover different cast-on methods and techniques for knitting smaller projects in the round, including socks, sleeves, and mittens.
🧶 May 2027 | Finishing and Caring for Your Knits
Learn finishing techniques, blocking, and how to care for your handmade pieces.
🧶 June 2027 | Knitting Garments That Fit
Explore garment construction, fit, gauge, tension, and understanding garment patterns.
🧶 July 2027 | Introduction to Cable Knitting
Learn the techniques behind beautiful cable patterns.
🧶 August 2027 | Introduction to Lace Knitting
Explore lace knitting techniques and decorative stitch patterns.
🧶 September 2027 | Introduction to Sock Knitting
Learn the basics of knitting your own socks!
A few things to know: Sessions will take place on select Saturdays from 10 AM–12 PM through September 2027, with a break in December. While we encourage you to attend the full series, each session focuses on a different topic, so you're welcome to join whenever you can! Topics may also be adjusted as the series progresses based on participant interests.
📚 All participants will be asked to sign a waiver at their first session. For participants under 18, a parent or guardian must sign.
