About this Event
Being Human Festival 2024, led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with generous support from Research England, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy (for further information please see beinghumanfestival.org) celebrates and demonstrates how the humanities inspire and enrich our everyday lives, help us understand ourselves, our relationships with others, and the challenges we face in a changing world. 'Knitting a Way Home' is a part of this Being Human Festival, the UK's national festival of the humanities, taking place 7 - 16 November 2024, inviting academics, researchers, creative practitioners, artists, and public members to engage in an interactive and exciting Knitting workshop.
This workshop is a dissemination of my practice-based PhD research within Humanities that argues that often neglected and taken for granted, 'domestic and cultural practices such as knitting' are not ordinary or mundane; instead, it is an active agent that enables a migrant to transfer their cultural values, memories, rituals, and belongings from their homeland to the newfound place. The workshop will coleasce intergenerational and intercultural patterns from two cultures- bringing the practice of Rangoli making and Knitting together like never before! Come along and join this new adventure in exploring how knitting brings people together - creating new connections, relationships, memories, and stories to unify different cultures.
All Materials will be provided!
