Healing God’s Children...
Our founder, Fr. Philip Scott, began his pursuit of the priesthood as a seminarian at Mount St. Mary's in Maryland. As a young seminarian he began experience movements in his heart of God's desire for him to found a new religious community. These movements were later confirmed by his spiritual director one day when, at the time, Philip was asked by his spiritual director:
"Do you think God would one day ask you to found a community of healing in Latin America?"
During this time of seminary when these movements first began to come up in Father's Heart he went on a pilgrimage to Lourdes. It was there that Father heard Jesus speak to his heart:
As God began this work in Fr. Philip, he resisted the idea of starting a new community and made a visit to the Missionaries of Charity to see if God would want him to enter there. But when Father visited, he realized he was excaping God's call.
With the help of his spiritual director he discerned to leave the Seminary in Maryland and move to Tampa, FL with the idea of being ordained there to begin this new community God had in mind. About 9 years after Fr. Philip moved to Florida he was given permission by the Bishop to begin a new community. The community was founded on April 1, 1998 with the women's branch opening the following year on February 11, 1999, Our Lady of Lourdes.
After about 5 years of being in Tampa, God opened the doors for our community to move to Peru. Fr. Philip felt confirmed in the way God was opening the doors for this move through his spiritual director and through prayer hearing in his heart from the Father:"Return to your country of origin."We moved to Chaclacayo, Peru in January 10, 2003 in the Diocese of Chosica under Bishop Norbert Strottman. Finally in 2008 God opened the doors for us to go into what our Servant Mother heard in her heart as, "the heart of the world." We were invited to serve the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Maldonado by Mnsgr. Francisco Gonzalez Hernandez. In a place with record amonts of human trafficking, drugs, alcohol, cohabitation, prostitution are destroying families here in the"heart of the world" we see that God has called us precisely to the center where the healing of the family is needed most.
The community has now been assigned the pastoral ministry in the district of “Las Piedras” by Bishop David Martinez de Aguirre, O.P. We currently serve families in this district as well as in the J*il of San Francisco de Asis and the Hospital of Santa Rosa de Lima.
The Gichi Ziibi Center is a 1200 + seat event center. It was built just a few years ago and has proven to be a wonderful addition to the Brainerd Lakes Area. Thankfully it is available to us for this event. We look forward to seeing you there.
