About this Event
companion = com + panis = together with bread
What do you think of when you think of breaking bread?
Bread is a universal symbol of friendship, survival, and culture. It is a vessel for memory and stories. All across the world, flour and water are brought together in a myriad of compositions, combinations, and proportions. The same base ingredients manifest in a multitude of forms.
milk bread, sourdough, bagels, brioche, ciabatta, injera, chapati, veda, focaccia, lavaash, baguette, qistibi, vanocka, challah, paratha, damper, obi non, yufka, zopf, pitta, rye bread, anpan, baghrir, balep korkun, banh mi, bannock, bolani, bolo do caco, bublik, cesnica, eish merahrah, farinata, markook, piadina, samoon, laffa, tunnbrod, zwieback, rieska, porteno, molette, melonpan, lefse.
The encyclopedia of bread is endless.
Join us for an interactive flatbread making session, where we come together to engage our senses, while cooking, sharing and eating collectively as a community. We will consider how bread can hold stories and memories, and experiment with a range of natural herbs and pigments to create images and words shaping our flatbreads and making them speak. The afternoon will end with a light community meal, an opportunity to share your food and feelings with the group.
This intervention is being brought to you by Lila Loisse, Maisongb and SHOR, at Small Time Projects accompanying their upcoming exhibition.
We are operating this workshop on a PWYC basis. We recommend three donation types:
£15 - Concession
£20 - Standard
£25- Supporter
All ingredients will be provided. At the end of the workshop you would have made a selection of flatbreads and will have the opportunity to eat them, or take them away.
We will DM to confirm payment arrangements and any dietary or access requirements.
We are aiming for our event to be as inclusive as possible. If you would like to attend, but are unable to pay the suggested ticket price, please email us and we’ll try our best to offer you a bursary ticket option.
