KNCJ Biggest Little Concert Series with Susan Mazer and Dallas Smith

On Sunday, March 9 at 11 a.m., Susan Mazer and Dallas Smith will bring their unique combination of jazz, world music, and classical styles to the University of Nevada, Reno's Harlan O. & Barbara R. Hall Recital Hall.

Susan Mazer, PhD, began in the classical world but turned to jazz and popular music, performing with musicians ranging from Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. to Loretta Lynn and John Denver. Her work with the electro-acoustic harp allows her to emphasize the bass line, taking on the bass role in the manner of a jazz ensemble. Mazer has performed worldwide, from India to Sweden. Her doctorate degree in Human and Organizational Development informs her work in the healing power of music.

Dallas Smith has performed all over the world, including the United States, Europe, and India. His performances combine jazz, his study of East Indian music, and virtuosity on not just the flute, but also the saxophone, clarinet, and Electronic Wind Instrument (EMI). He studied with Indian Music masters Ali Akbar Khan and G.S. Sachdev, and jazz saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis, and has performed with Ahmad Jamal, Steven Halpern, Zakir Hussein, and other musical greats.

The KNCJ Biggest Little Concert Series, presented quarterly, will feature a combination of music performed by some of the Truckee Meadows's finest musicians, and casual conversation both musical and personal. Inspired by the legendary, long-running public radio program Saint Paul Sunday, the Biggest Little Concert Series will be a showcase for local musicians.

The conversation for the KNCJ Biggest Little Concert Series will be moderated by Chris Morrison, producer for KNCJ public radio.

All proceeds from these concerts will benefit KNCJ, Nevada Classical and Jazz. Support for these concerts has been provided by David Fenimore, former announcer at KUNR public radio and retired professor of English at the University of Nevada, Reno.
