KMFA Classical 89.5’s Fall 2025 Offbeat Series kicks off by pushing the boundaries of music and performance with percussionist-composer Jordan Walsh’s if it keeps on rainin’ on Friday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Draylen Mason Music Studio.
Percussionist and composer Jordan Walsh presents if it keeps on rainin’, an immersive solo performance that blurs the lines between classical percussion, electronic music, and experimental art. Evolving from his long-running BATTERY_CRITICAL series, this new work shifts from inward reflection to an outward gaze—examining the role of community and creativity in an increasingly chaotic world.
The program features world premieres by Walsh, Aida Shirazi, Hunter Prueger, and Louis Raymond-Kolker; the American premiere of The Messenger by legendary theatrical composer Georges Aperghis; and reimagined classics including Laurie Anderson’s O Superman and Memphis Minnie’s When the Levee Breaks (famously covered by Led Zeppelin), uniquely crafted with the Bitklavier—an experimental digital piano tool never before applied to percussion. Familiar instruments such as vibraphone, drum set, and melodica will be radically transformed through live processing and electronic textures, supported by immersive visual projections from Austin-based artist S. Wallace.
Part recital, part sound installation, if it keeps on rainin’ is rooted in Austin’s creative energy—celebrating the people, places, and moments that shape us while pushing the boundaries of contemporary classical performance.
