About this Event
Join us at Mrs. Dalloway's Bookstore on Thursday, October 16 at 7:00 PM when author and activist Kitty Stryker comes to the store to share her new book Love Rebels: How I Learned to Burn It Down Without Burning Out. Kitty will be joined in conversation by Sezin Devi Koehler and will sign copies of her book after the presentation.
to pre-order a copy of Love Rebels.
Balancing a devotion to activism with personal relationships can be incredibly difficult. Kitty Stryker shares her experience as an activist, street medic and relationship educator to help others pursue the important work while maintaining healthy relationships and without burning out.
In what is both a call to action and a candid memoir, Stryker is open about what she has learned and her perceived limitations. Recognizing that it can feel overwhelming to know how to effectively make change, she encourages readers to consider how they can best advocate for causes they believe in, presenting different types of activism and urging readers to honestly examine their own hesitations.
She also emphasizes that without taking care of our interpersonal relationships, many people burn out of activism at the very time when we need more people on the ground, and she offers practical strategies to avoid this and to encourage healthy relationships.
KITTY STRYKER has been working on defining and creating a consent culture for over a decade. Based in Berkeley, CA, she is especially interested in bringing conversations about consent, critical thinking, and sustainable activism into everyday life. Kitty is an anarchist street medic, a social justice arcane trickster, and a devoted cat mom.
SEZIN DEVI KOEHLER is a multiracial Sri Lankan/Lithuanian American and author of Much Ado About Keanu: A Critical Reeves Theory (April 2025, Chicago Review Press). Pop-culture writer, entertainment journalist, and Rotten Tomatoes-certified film and TV critic for Black Girl Nerds, Sezin's bylines also include Entertainment Weekly, The Daily Beast, Scalawag Magazine, Tasteful Rude, Teen Vogue, and many more. Sezin writes from an East Oakland historic landmark that looks uncannily like the house from Practical Magic, where she can see the San Francisco Bay from her own window.
