Kitchener Kitab Book Fair

The first edition of the Kitchener Kitab Book Fair 2026 arrives in April, Arab Heritage Month, in collaboration with the Levant Foundation. What began as a simple idea, looking for space for the Arabic book beyond major cities, has grown into an initiative and now into a yearly gathering that opens a new window for the book in a city shaped by diversity and held together by culture.

This year, we carry the line “We must therefore read,” not as a decorative slogan, but as a meaning we hold onto. We repeat it with Edward Said, who links reading to a deeper understanding of the world, and to a cultural and intellectual awareness that strengthens our ability to listen, to discern, and to build a free and thoughtful point of view.

In that spirit, the fair will take place on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at the Victoria Park Pavilion. It is designed as an open, welcoming space where readers meet publishers and creators, and where families and friends can discover new titles, purchase books, and renew their relationship with language, identity, and knowledge through one focused day that feels alive and full.

Publishers, book distributors, and bookstores from across Canada and beyond will take part, bringing a carefully selected range of new and diverse releases across fiction, poetry, thought and history, personal development and the humanities, and books for children and young readers. Here, visitors should feel that the Arabic book is close and easy to reach, and that choosing a new title can be the beginning of a lasting relationship with reading.

Alongside the book exhibition, the fair will include a cultural program that adds another kind of energy to the day: brief conversations with writers and creatives, poetry moments that celebrate the Arabic voice in the diaspora, and interactive spaces that bring language closer to everyday life and invite participation. Families and children are central to this vision, because we believe reading habits begin early, and because when a book enters a home, it quietly changes its rhythm for the better.

At its heart, this first edition is not a passing stop, but the beginning of a path we hope will grow year after year. We want it to become a yearly appointment for reading in Kitchener, and a space where the community meets its wider surroundings through culture and knowledge. We gather because reading makes room for us, and because the Arabic book deserves to be present in the city as it is present in our memory. ينطلق في شهر نيسان، شهر التراث العربي، معرض كتاب كيتشنر 2026 في نسخته الأولى، بالتعاون مع مؤسسة ليڤانت. بدأت الحكاية كفكرة تبحث عن مساحة لانتشار الكتاب العربي خارج المدن الكبرى، ثم تحوّلت إلى مبادرة، ثم إلى لقاء سنوي يفتح للكتاب نافذة جديدة في مدينة تتسع للتنوّع وتؤمن بأن الثقافة تجمعنا.

وتستمر معنا في عام 2026 عبارة “إذًا، علينا أن نقرأ”، لا كشعار جمالي فحسب، بل كمعنى نتمسك به. نرددها مع إدوارد سعيد حين يربط القراءة بالفهم العميق للعالم، وبالوعي الثقافي والمعرفي الذي يمنح الإنسان قدرة أكبر على الإصغاء والتمييز، وعلى بناء رأيٍ حر.

بهذه الروح، يقام المعرض يوم السبت 11 أبريل 2026 في Victoria Park Pavilion، ليكون مساحة مفتوحة يلتقي فيها القرّاء بالناشرين والمبدعين، وتجد فيها العائلات والأصدقاء فرصة لاكتشاف عناوين جديدة واقتناء الكتب، وتجديد العلاقة مع اللغة والهوية والمعرفة، في يوم واحد مكثّف ومليء بالمعرفة والحياة.

ويشارك في المعرض ناشرون وموزّعو كتب ومكتبات من داخل كندا وخارجها، يقدّمون اختيارات مدروسة من الإصدارات الحديثة والمتنوعة في الأدب والرواية والشعر، والفكر والتاريخ، والتنمية والعلوم الإنسانية، وكتب الأطفال والناشئة، وغيرها. هنا يشعر الزائر أن الكتاب العربي قريب ومتاح بيسر، وأن اختيار عنوان جديد قد يكون بداية علاقة طويلة مع القراءة.

ويصاحب المعرض برنامج ثقافي يمنح اليوم طاقة إضافية: لقاءات قصيرة مع كتّاب ومبدعين، وقراءات شعرية تحتفي بالصوت العربي في المهجر، ومساحات تفاعلية تقرّب اللغة من الناس وتفتح باب المشاركة. كما نولي العائلات والأطفال اهتمامًا خاصًا، لأننا نؤمن أن عادة القراءة تُزرع مبكرًا، وأن الكتاب حين يدخل البيت يغيّر إيقاعه بهدوءٍ جميل.

وفي النهاية، هذه الدورة ليست محطة عابرة، بل بداية لمسار نأمل أن يكبر عامًا بعد عام. نريدها أن تكون موعدًا سنويًا للقراءة في كيتشنر، ومساحة تلتقي فيها الجالية مع محيطها عبر الثقافة والمعرفة. نجتمع لأن القراءة تخلق مكانًا لنا، ولأن الكتاب العربي يستحق أن يكون حاضرًا في المدينة كما هو حاضر في ذاكرتنا. ننتظركم لنكتب معًا الفصل الأول من حكاية القراءة في كيتشنر.
