Kirkin' o' the Tartan

The "Kirkin' o' the Tartan" is a Scots-American custom celebrating Scottish heritage. Following Prince Charlie's defeat, the Act of Proscription in 1746 banned the wearing of tartans. It's been said that Scots protesting this law would touch a small piece of family tartan cloth hidden under their clothes during Sunday religious services and rededicate themselves to God and their Scottish heritage. The Kirkin’ service involves metaphors for the many roles that tartan may play in keeping the Scottish family together. Music by members of Rochester Scottish Pipes and Drums. This service is open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend!
