Originally from the Midwest and now based in Tampa Bay, Kip Kelly crafts heartfelt, narrative-driven music that echoes the traditions of Guy Clark and John Prine. After picking up a guitar in 2008 to process the loss of his mother, Kip developed a signature style defined by intricate Travis picking and an eye for the "unique details" that make a story real.
Kip’s commitment to the craft earned him a win at a 2019 songwriting contest judged by Sam Baker and Rod Picott, securing a spot at the St. Petersburg Songwriter’s Festival. He has since shared the stage with renowned songwriters including Jim Lauderdale, Keith Sykes, Slaid Cleaves, Joe Pug, and Rod Picott.
In the spring of 2025, Kip recorded his debut album at Archer Studio in Memphis, Tennessee. Produced by Will Sexton, the record captures the raw authenticity of his live performance. Singles are set for release in early 2026.
Kelly’s creative pursuits extend beyond the stage as the founder of Crooked Thumb Brewery, a staple craft brewery and outdoor music venue in Tampa Bay. For over a decade, the brewery has hosted the area’s longest-standing songwriter’s circle, attracting original artists from across the country.
