Join me for a morning of mindfulness with intention on Sunday 25 January for an introduction into the Japanese Art of Kintsugi and delicious handmade Dimsum! This centuries old art form is filled with many philosophical lessons and can be viewed as a metaphor for healing ourselves by embracing our own flaws and imperfections.
Traditional Kintsugi can take months to complete. In this 3.5 hour workshop I’ll share my contemporary methods to practice and apply on any ceramics that need to be mended to allow you to repair and restore into something unique and resilient rather than dispose of.
This Culture cuisine experience includes our famous 3-course Dimsum lunch - handmade, preservative and MSG free (dumplings and won ton, noodles and dessert). We are fully licensed and you can enjoy mimosas, artisan beers, SA wines, Chinese beers, sake and soju too!
Booking essential as space is limited. Quicket, DM/WhatsApp me to secure your seat.
What to expect:
A morning of mindfulness at our Traditional Teahouse to learn the traditional Japanese art of Kintsugi and to apply this to a ceramic of your own that needs to be repaired.
What to bring:
A ceramic of your own like a vase/pot plant holder/bowl etc that is either broken in half or with 2 - 4 pieces broken off. You can also bring a ceramic that isn’t broken and I’ll teach you how to break it! Please note the technique I will share uses gold leaf / gold powder that is not food grade safe.
If you don’t have a ceramic to use - you’re welcome to purchase a ceramic from our extensive collection! There will be a small collection of ceramics that you can choose from that are included in the workshop to be used.
What’s the cost:
The workshop includes mindfulness teachings to embrace your own imperfections, the philosophy of kintsugi and the practice on your own ceramic or one you can purchase from our collection. All materials to be used on the day are included with the lesson, a welcome drink and our famous Dimsum lunch is included at R1350pp.
The details:
Date: Sunday 25 Jan at 9:30am - 1pm. Please arrive on time to settle in as we will start promptly.
Venue: Yescas Teahouse, The Old Bakery, Fisherman’s World, Main road, Hout Bay (behind Spirit jewelry). Secure underground parking at Pick ‘n Pay, Mainstream Mall.
Cost: R1350pp for the 3.5 hour workshop. Includes all materials to be used on the day excluding food/drink and the ceramic to be repaired. Please bring your own or you can purchase a ceramic from us. You’ll have lots of time to order and enjoy more delish Dimsum, noodle and rice dishes or to buy our freshly handmade Dimsum to take home and steam/pan fry/boil at home from frozen! This experience includes our famous Dimsum 3-course lunch! We are fully licenced with a wide selection of SA wines, gins and beers on offer!
Our Kintsugi Culture Cuisine experiences are perfect for corporate team building / executive team strategy sessions or private parties. Please get in touch to discuss options!
How to book:
Quicket/DM/WhatsApp me to secure your spot. Payment in full via credit card or snapscan.
Cancellation policy:
Please note once you’ve booked and paid for your spot, we aren’t able to offer any refunds. We can credit you to join another class if for some reason you aren’t able to attend the workshop you booked for. All our experiences require a minimum number of participants. If this number is not reached - you will be notified and your spot will be moved to the next available class.
