Kin'Gongolo Kiniata's journey began in the bustling streets of Kinshasa, performing at neighborhood parties and local dances, where they quickly attracted attention with their innovative approach to traditional Congolese music. Their first EP, "Moto," was an ode to this raw energy. Their debut album, "Kiniata," released earlier this year, is also a celebration of city life and Congolese traditions, emphasized by the use of Lingala in lyrics that describe the struggles, hopes, and triumphs of everyday life. "Kiniata" is rooted in a strong heritage that they modernize to create something entirely new. Their frenetic rhythms and captivating melodies owe a debt to the rebellious spirit of Article 15 ("find your own way"). The soul of Kinshasa resonates in every note, every recycled percussion beat, every electric riff. By blending Kinshasa's urban rhythms with contemporary influences, Kiniata paves a new path for Congolese music.
The driving and original sound reinforces the activism of the lyrics with messages of hope and perseverance. Themes of homelessness, war, and survival, articulate the profound need for recognition and social justice, while celebrating the radical resilience of the Kinois spirit.
Kin’ Gongolo Kiniata is forging a new path for Congolese music that has captivated a global audience. After numerous festivals, they are finally coming to AB to immerse the club in authentic Kin’ vibes.
