MANKATO, MN – A new play by local playwright Tom David Barna, “Kingdom Come”, will be performed as a staged reading 7 p.m., August 20 at the Emy Frentz Arts Guild, 523 South 2nd Street. This one-night-only performance is open to the public, with a freewill donation accepted.
According to director Greg Abbott, “Kingdom Come” is the Christmas story audiences rarely hear. The play explores the largely untold love story of Mary and Joseph during their yearlong engagement, a journey marked by startling revelations and life-changing challenges.
Abbott has assembled 15 of the region’s local actors for the staged reading. As Abbott explains, the format is “more or less a live performance,” with actors primarily reading from scripts rather than memorizing every line—yet it can be just as compelling. Staged readings help validate new theatrical works before they are submitted to theatre companies for full production.
