About this Event
Step into the spirit of Sheffield’s legendary King Mojo and create your own bold pop art canvas in this free, hands-on workshop led by artist Angie Hardwick.
Using striking imagery of the artists who lit up the stage in the 1960s, you’ll produce a vibrant piece inspired by the era’s energy, style and sound.
Whether you were there at the time or simply love the music and culture, this is a chance to be part of something special.
Each two-hour session (there's a morning running from 10am to 12 noon and afternoon one running from 1pm-3pm) is limited to just 12 places, giving you time, space and guidance to create a finished artwork you can take home or have featured in the project’s final exhibition. Free refreshments will be provided.
The mural initiative forms part of a wider heritage project marking the 60th anniversary of King Mojo, supported by a £114,300 award from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The two-year programme is capturing memories, researching archives and sharing the club’s legacy with new generations.
King Mojo opened in 1964 when Peter and Geoff Stringfellow transformed a former ballroom in Pitsmoor into a teenage club that quickly became a magnet for young music fans. Over the next four years, it hosted artists who would go on to become global stars, including Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Small Faces, Pink Floyd and scores of others.
