Kindling: A Writer's Retreat

Join Paul Young, Jonathan Foster, and about a dozen others for a one-of-a-kind gathering in a Flagstaff cabin, surrounded by the world's largest continuous stand of Ponderosa Pine. We'll spend the weekend exploring life and loss, beauty and pain, and storytelling. The weekend is crafted with writers in mind, but open to anyone exploring spiritual attentiveness, reimagined faith communities, and a theology of non-coercive love.

Paul Young, is a husband, father, and grandfather, and an international best-selling author, best known for The Shack (its sequel will be out this year!), and Lies We Believe about God.

Jonathan J. Foster is the partner of one, father of three, an award-winning author and podcaster with degrees in open and relational theology, co-founder of lovehaiti.org, as well as co-founder of thecurian.network, where he helps resource faith communities and their leaders.

Between the two, they have sold over 20 million books (which is a line that Jonathan loves to use 😂).

Housing:
There are plenty of hotels, motels, and Airbnb options for you in the area. For reference, the cabin is North of the town, about halfway between Snowbowl Ski Area and Flagstaff, off of Highway 180.

Schedule:
8/7 - Friday night session

8/8 - Saturday morning breakfast (provided) and session
Saturday lunch, we'll go to Flag and eat together
Saturday afternoon session
Saturday dinner on your own
Saturday evening session

8/9 - Sunday morning, leave for Grand Canyon (less than 90 minute drive), lunch on the rim, spend a few hours, then back for a Sunday evening concluding session.

Meals:
Drinks and snacks will be provided at the cabin. Unless otherwise noted, you'll cover all your own meals and park pass to get into the Grand Canyon. Note: This is not a hiking trip, and no one should attempt the canyon without serious preparation and training.
