Are you looking to homeschool your child for kindergarten? I am creating a Seedling School pod specifically for families of five and six-year-olds that includes:
- a once-a-week, drop-off kindergarten enrichment program that uses my experience as a public school teacher and my deep dive into implementing learning philosophies that honor and respect the child and their development as a person including Waldorf, Montessori, Forest School, and Reggio Emila.
- a focus on families who want to build a community for themselves and their children. Collaboratively co-creating seasonal celebrations and traditions, weekly meetups, and the growth of intergenerational relationships. We are not meant to parent or learn in isolation. This is a collaboration between those the child often holds dearest: the parents and the introduction of teachers and community elders into their lives.
- meeting in nature to play, learn, and develop an awareness of our foundational needs. What does it take for a child to thrive? How do we create environments where adults feel supported in their roles as individuals and as parents? How do we model and create educational systems that push the social norms that are unhealthy and do not support children? How do we think outside the box, together?
- finding like-minded families who are exploring alternative ways of educating their children and would like the support of other parents and my knowledge as a classroom teacher for nine years.
- finding others to share and co-create fun and enriching experiences outside of the weekly drop-off. Taking turns planning and organizing field trips, experiments, art projects, and volunteer opportunities. Take turns planning learning opportunities or fun activities such as blueberry picking and outdoor play. Learn a sport together like soccer or baseball or hire a teacher to lead your pod during hours that are welcoming to you.
Payment for the one-day enrichment program will include hours that I plan and teach and for spendy insurance that covers nature-based education and permits. I see this as a grass-roots initiative that supports alternative ways of living and raising our children in community. I am not a non-profit but welcome donations, the sharing of information to raise awareness and the participation of community elders and others who have wisdom and resources to share. This is a step towards something important.
