ABOUT HEAT OF HYDRATION
The new United Nations headquarters building is under construction. However, a motivated and skilled operator, code name "Pakistan," has influenced and altered its design so it becomes a giant bomb set to explode on opening day, assassinating leaders of the world's largest economies in attendance. The sudden vacuum in leadership will hugely benefit the one country behind it all.
To support this cause, a shocking fund-raising scheme is devised. A contract killer is hired to M**der seven, ordinary, young Muslim men in major cities across Europe. The men's parents are in on the twisted plan. Their deaths will trigger insurance payouts that finance the strategy to change the balance of world power. Six men are killed. One gets away. Colton Gray, with Interpol, is called in to investigate the murders and is led to the U.N. project under construction. Cryptic clues are sent, warning of the impending disaster, but Colton needs help to figure it out.
Before "Pakistan" can carry out his mission, he meets and falls in love with a woman which dampens his desire for revenge. When he also learns he has been manipulated with misleading information, he doesn't know if he can extricate himself and stop the explosion in time.
ABOUT RAY DAN PARKER
As a student at the University of Georgia, Ray Dan Parker studied literature and history. His earliest influences came from such nineteenth and early twentieth century authors as James Joyce, Ernest Hemingway, and George Eliot. He is also an avid reader of such science fiction legends as Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, and Kurt Vonnegut, as well as contemporary authors John Grisham, Michael Connelly, and John Sandford.
While in college Mr. Parker also worked for various local and campus newspapers. There he discovered a passion for interviewing and reporting that continues to this day.
Following a long career in consulting, Mr. Parker began his fiction career with the publication of Unfinished Business, a M**der mystery set in 1968 rural Florida. His second novel, Fly Away – The Metamorphosis of Dina Savage, takes place more recently in the Atlanta area, followed by a third in the Tom Williams series, Pronounced Ponce – The Midtown Murders.
Mr. Parker is married and lives in Atlanta, where he spends his free time writing, reading, and teaching. He also enjoys community service projects and works as a youth leader at his church.
ABOUT LAST GLEAMING
In Last Gleaming – Love and Death in the Time of Pandemic, William Wakefield, whom Parker’s readers will remember from Pronounced Ponce, is now a college freshman. He meets and falls in love with Misty Sax, whom we met in Fly Away.
William is pursuing his dreams of becoming a journalist. With help from his grandfather, Tom Williams, William is already penning features about the new life-altering technologies generated by Atlanta area universities. Misty’s plans to transfer to the University of Georgia, however, threaten to toss a wet blanket on their budding relationship.
Detective Beth Long, recently returned to the Atlanta Police Department from maternity leave, investigates a grisly M**der scene in West Midtown, one that lays bare a child prostitution operation that threatens a U.S. senate candidate’s career.
Set against a backdrop of industrial espionage and international intrigue, William and Misty’s progress seems doomed… Then COVID-19 hits.
