Killer Story: The Truth Behind True Crime Television

Television programs focusing on true-crime accounts are enormously popular. The stories appeal to raw feelings of sympathy and to our subconscious fears because they are real, not fictional.

Claire St. Amant, author of Killer Story: The Truth Behind True Crime Television, will share her story at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at the historic Allen Christian Church, 450 E. St. Mary Dr., in Allen. Her memoir reveals the inner collaborations of national TV crime coverage, while also offering a glimpse into the decisions that are made in mainstream network news. Ms. Amant will recount her days as a reporter and producer at CBS News’ 48 Hours and 60 Minutes, where she was an eyewitness to the high-stakes andruthless world of true-crime reporting.

Ms. St. Amant has been face-to-face with serial killers, hit men, and cold-blooded murderers, all of which requires an inner strength to boldly confront their manipulative and sociopathic behaviors. Ms. St. Amant declares, “I’ve snuck into jails, and I’ve been detained in courtrooms. This was not a normal job, and my memoir spills the secrets of what producers do to get a killer story on the air.”
