What is it about a Crime Series that seems to really grab readers? Join us with two of the finest proponents of the crime series to find out
About this Event

Crime fiction has always been popular. But Crime Fiction Series have raised that popularity sky high. What is it about a Crime Series that seems to really grab readers? Is it the opportunity to go beyond the plot and really dig into the characters lives? Or the joy of getting to hang out with old friends year after year? Are the worlds in these books richer because the story doesn’t end when each book is over? And how do the writers of these series feel about the enduring popularity of their fictional works? Join us with two of the finest proponents of the crime series to discuss these and many other questions.

Mark Billingham is one of the UK's most acclaimed and popular crime writers. A former actor, television writer and stand-up comedian, his series of novels featuring D.I. Tom Thorne has twice won him the Crime Novel Of The Year Award as well as the Sherlock Award for Best British Detective and been nominated for seven CWA Daggers. His standalone thriller IN THE DARK was chosen as one of the twelve best books of the year by the Times and his debut novel, SLEEPYHEAD was chosen by the Sunday Times as one of the 100 books that had shaped the decade. Each of his novels has been a Sunday Times Top Ten bestseller.

Vaseem Khan is the author of two award-winning crime series set in India and of Quantum of Menace, the first in a series featuring Q from the James Bond franchise. He is a previous winner of the Shamus Award in the US. His debut, The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra, was translated into 16 languages. In 2021, Midnight at Malabar House, the first in the Malabar House novels set in 1950s Bombay, won the CWA Historical Dagger and was shortlisted for the Theakstons Crime Novel of the Year Award. Vaseem lives in London and is the former chair of the Crime Writers’ Association. The Edge of Darkness, his latest book will be published in early 2026.
