KIKO BUN
London-based producer, singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kiko Bun is a contemporary voice for his generation through music that feels timeless. Kiko combines his deep love of Jamaican roots music with the sound of modern London sound-system culture. Alongside his stand-out demeanour and vibrant stage presence, he has established an authentic and refreshing sound based on the re-emergence of Reggae, Soul and golden era Hip Hop that continues to infiltrate mainstream music.
Kiko has long revelled in the joy of crate-digging, crafting sample-based beats, and creating roots-heavy reggae music, working with the likes of Alborosie, Shy Fx, Chase And Status, and Ticklah (of Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings).
Half-Panamanian, half-Italian, Kiko was raised in North London on a diet of classical music, salsa and hip hop. But it was eventually the sun-soaked sounds of reggae that became his musical love. After mastering the violin as a young child, he was inspired by the dub, rocksteady and rub-a-dub records of his Dad’s generation. He started collecting blues records to sample, bought a PC and began making old-school beats before delving deep into reggae and immersing himself into London’s ever-thriving subculture of musicians, MCs, DJs, shops bursting with revival Studio One 7”s and the all-important sound system mixtapes imported straight from JA.
Following a handful of independent singles, including the catchy 2014 hit "Where I'm From," Kiko bagged a deal with Island Records and released a steady stream of new material, beginning with the 2015 EP Come Again. Along the way, he toured the festival circuit and featured on tracks by Credenza and the Next Men, among others. A host of singles arrived in 2016, including the Dre Island collaboration "Alipanga" and the summer boombox anthem “Sticky Situation”. In late 2017 he released the hooky "Fistful of Nothing" single, which was later included on his 2018 EP, The Clubs.
