BACKGROUND:
KIGAMIKAMIN – “We Will Find”
Kigamikamin means “We will find,” a name gifted in May 2023 by Elder Fred Kelly during ceremony. This name carries a sacred commitment—a shared promise that we will continue searching, remembering, and honoring the truths of our children.
Together, Iskatewizaagegan (IIFN #39), Shoal Lake #40, and Animakee Wa Zhing #37 walk this path in unity. As Nations, we honour and memorialize the children whose legacies remain with us—those who have gone before us and those who never returned home. Through ceremony, remembrance, and community strength, we uphold their dignity and continue to carry their stories forward.
The KIGAMIKAMIN (KGK) Project is the continuation of this sacred work. It is guided by the voices of living Survivors and by the spirits of the children who did not come home. The goal of this project is to memorialize the children who attended the residential schools, ensuring their lives, experiences, and truths are never forgotten.
