Kids with Bins: Youth-Led Bird Walks

Join DC Bird Alliance Junior Ambassador Ali for a special bird walk designed with young people in mind.

This family-friendly adventure will explore Kingman and Heritage Islands, one of DC's most exciting places to discover birds and other wildlife.

This walk is all about creating space for young people to lead, learn, ask questions, and build confidence outdoors. Whether your child is already a budding birdwatcher or simply curious about the natural world, this is a wonderful opportunity to explore, discover, and connect with nature alongside other young people.

Binoculars are encouraged and we have a limited number available to share.

🐢 Pace: Slow and youth-friendly, with frequent stops for observation, questions, and discovery

📏 Distance: Approximately 1–1.5 miles

🪨 Terrain: Crushed stone paths, natural surfaces, boardwalks, and bridges

⛰ Elevation: Mostly flat

🪑 Rest Areas: Limited benches available along portions of the route

♿ Wheelchair Access: Portions of the route are not wheelchair accessible due to narrow bridges, uneven surfaces, and transitions between trail types

🚻 Restrooms: No restrooms available on the islands

👧🏾 Designed for children and families. Young birders will be leading the experience.

🐦 Beginners are encouraged. No birding experience is required.
