Join a former homeschooler, local mom, and nature/science enthusiast on this nature walk around the property of America's Stonehenge. We will take our time exploring and appreciating the smaller details of the natural landscape surrounding us. Our guide will point out the local flora and fauna, including but not limited to brush varieties, bird calls, animal scat, insects, and how to identify things like poison ivy. Attendants are encouraged to ask a lot of questions and share any knowledge they have with the group as well. The focus of this nature walk will be on plant and animal life, and we will be taking the road less traveled through the wooded snowshoe trails; while the group as a whole will not be walking through the main complex of structures, families are encouraged to tour the site and learn about the fascinating history of the stone structures before or after the nature walk.
Please feel welcome to bring your water bottle on the walk. Our picnic grove is located near the visitor center for snacks and lunches.
The trail is approximately one mile long with steady slopes and uneven terrain. Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and supportive footwear, and be prepared to walk for about one hour. The walk will take place rain or shine.
This event is included with regular admission, which can be purchased online or at the door. Valid card-holders at our partnered libraries (Kelley, Hampstead, Derry, and Nevins) receive 50% off admission up to four people! Library card must be presented at check-in.
