Healthy habits can be formed with the power of yoga and mindfulness, and the earlier in life we begin, the longer we can enjoy the benefits. Young people today are faced with an overload of stress, worry, and pressure to be perfect, which can lead to anxiety, depression and self - criticism. Research shows that practicing yoga and mindfulness can benefit children and youth in many ways. Some of these benefits include:
1. Develops mind-body awareness
2. Develops discipline and improves self-regulation
3. Cultivates physical fitness
4. Enhances student behavior, mental clarity, health and performance in school
5. Reduces stress and anxiety
6. Improves self-esteem and body image
7. Encourages creativity
The focus of this class is kindness and generosity towards self and others. The intent of this class is to help youth learn calming breathing techniques, give them tools to build a personal yoga and mindfulness practice that they can do at home, and to provide guidelines on how to live a positive life with love and acceptance of self and others. Students will practice relaxing breathing exercises and fun yoga postures as well as engage in games, journaling and mindful activities, all while learning new ways to calm and quiet the mind and body.
Together, we can help make this a great school year as we support our future leaders and provide them these tools to thrive and succeed on all levels.

Teresa is both a student and teacher of yoga and is deeply committed to sharing her passion for mindfulness practices. Her personal yoga practice has enabled her to navigate major life transitions, as well as grow and transform her everyday life.
Teresa holds a BA from UNC-Wilmington in Psychology/Sociology, along with yoga certifications in 500hr RYT, 300hr Yoga Psychology, 200hr YTT, 95-hour Childrens YTT, Trauma Informed Yoga, Warriors at Ease, and Yoga for 12 Step Recovery. She is also a certified 200hr Meditation Teacher and Shamanic Reiki Master. Her passion is combining her education and trainings to help both adults and children find their unique light through physical postures, breathwork, affirmations and meditation. In all of her sessions, she offers practices to aid in self-awareness, self-care, relaxation, reduction of stress, anxiety, and depression, along with a deeper connection of mind, body and heart.
