About the instructors: Shephali Jain & Tania Mirchandani and director Priyanka J. Vora
Age group 3-7
Shephali Jain is a kids dance instructor at Rangeela Dance Company in Los Angeles. She embarked on her dance journey at the age of three. Her formal training in Kathak during her formative years laid the foundation for her involvement in Bollywood performing groups, where she actively participated in skits and dance performances. More recently, she has ventured into choreographing dances for friends and family, finding particular joy in dancing alongside her own children. With a rich background in dance, Shephali looks forward to sharing her enthusiasm and skills with children. Her goal is to provide a creative outlet for their talents and foster a love for dance.
Shephali is thrilled at the prospect of meeting and working with all the young dancers at Rangeela and their families. Fun fact: Shephali is the mom of one of our students and loves to dance with her daughter!
Age group 8-12:
About Tania Mirchandani: Tania's passion for dance began in her childhood, ignited by her mother's introduction to Bollywood music and dance. From there, she immersed herself in the world of performance, spending a decade in musical theatre with the Belasco Theater Company. During her time at UC Berkeley, she deepened her connection to her Punjabi heritage through learning bhangra, becoming a regular performer at cultural events like the Indus Cultural Show.
Her journey continued through business school at UCLA Anderson School of Management, where she not only pursued her education but also continued her love for dance. She even starred in a short film titled "Dada Ji" alongside Kumar Pallana. Her talent and dedication led her to be selected for the prestigious NDM Studios dance troupe, representing India on the international stage in the TV show "Superstars of Dance." She eventually developed a passion for choreographing and teaching Bollywood dance for children at the annual Sindhi Association Diwali Ball in LA. Tania cherishes her role as a mother to three wonderful children, whom she shares her love of dance with.
Tania is very active in the community. She ran the Young Professional group at the American India Foundation (AIF) and served as a Trustee alongside her husband from 2012 to 2016. AIF, a significant nonprofit organization supporting development work in India, benefited from her dedication and leadership. She is also actively involved in the Arts for Healing and Justice Network (AHJN). AHJN is a vital support system for community-based arts organizations, particularly those working with youth experiencing incarceration in California.
Tania is very excited to teach Bollywood dance and nurture the next generation of dancers at Rangeela Dance Company!
Priyanka J. Vora is the founder & director of Rangeela Dance Company. She is a producer, director, instructor and choreographer. Priyanka is trained classically in Bharatnatyam and completed her Arangetram at age 16. She developed a passion not only for classical Indian dance, but also for Bollywood, Semi-Classical, Folk, Garba, Fusion and wedding/special events choreography. She started Rangeela in 2016 as a means to preserve and celebrate the rich South Asian culture through dance. Priyanka is also a Doctor of Physical Therapy (Board-Certified in Pelvic & Women’s Health) and promotes preventative health, wellness and the arts in the community. She has two sons under three years old who love to dance with her and watch her dance videos!
