At the heart of this challenging moment in American history is the corrosive influence of unchecked dark money and corporate power, which has steadily drowned out the voices of everyday people. While money has always played a role in politics, the floodgates truly opened in 2010 with the Supreme Court’s disastrous Citizens United decision. To discuss how we got here and what we can do to save our democracy, we are proud to announce that Jeffrey Clements will serve as the keynote speaker for the 2026 Keys to Democracy Awards Dinner.
Jeffrey Clements, former Assistant Attorney General of Massachusetts, filed an amicus brief opposing the Citizens United ruling and has spent the last 15 years leading the fight to overturn it through a proposed 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. He is the CEO and co-founder of American Promise and the author of Corporations Are Not People: Reclaiming Democracy from Big Money and Global Corporations.
