How can we restore landscapes in ways that deliver for climate, nature and people?

This talk will explore what it takes to restore nature across whole landscapes, from understanding what nature needs to recover to creating the policies, funding and partnerships that can make change happen on the ground. It will look at the UK’s ambitious nature recovery targets and the opportunities created by the Environmental Land Management Schemes (ELMS) and their nature recovery programmes.

David Coomes, Co-Director of the Centre for Landscape Regeneration, will take a holistic look at the CLR’s work across three very different landscapes: the Fens, the Cairngorms and Cumbria.

Drawing on research from across the Centre, he will explore what it takes to regenerate landscapes in ways that work for nature, climate and people. He will bring together evidence from ecological science, remote sensing and community-led research to show what we are learning about what works on the ground, and what is needed to make landscape-scale nature recovery work for the long term.
