Your tour begins at the World's Largest Grandfather Clock (corner of Miller St & Milwaukee St./WI-42) A local guide will talk about the clock, then lead the group through Kewaunee's Fire Museum. (This portion will take 20-30 minutes)
Walking a short distance, the tour boards the WWII era tug "LUDINGTON" where the guide will discuss the tug's construction and service history. Your group will then be released for a self-guided tour of the tug. Tour pamphlets or an audio tour option are available, and the tour guide can answer questions as well.
Meeting back in the galley aboard the tug, the tour guide will explain the events leading up to the founding of Kewaunee and the early changes made to the harbor to spur commerce. (The tug portion will take 30-45 minutes)
The group will then begin the walking portion of the tour, stopping near points of interest to learn about the train depot, the carferry docks, the lifesaving station, and Lighthouse Park. (Approx. 1/4 mile & 20 minutes)
The group will then walk the 1/4 mile along the south pier to the Kewaunee Pierhead Lighthouse, where guides and a video will explain the need for the lighthouse, the history of the station, and the efforts underway to restore it. The group will then be guided through the lighthouse, climbing all the way to the lantern, where the light is. (30-45 minutes)
The tour concludes at this point, and visitors are able to walk back to the tug at their own pace.
