Kew Orchid Festival 2025

The Royal Botanic Gardens Kew is hosting its annual Orchid Festival in the Princess of Wales Conservatory from February 1 to March 2 2025. This year's festival celebrates the rich biodiversity of Peru a country renowned for its diverse ecosystems and over 3000 native orchid species.

Festival Highlights:

• Floral Displays: Visitors will be greeted by a stunning array of horticultural installations inspired by Peru's landscapes and wildlife. A central feature includes a vibrant cornucopia on a grass island reminiscent of Lake Titicaca symbolizing Peru's abundant biodiversity. Additionally floral sculptures of alpacas flamingos and representations of iconic landmarks like Machu Picchu will be showcased.
• Unique Plant Exhibits: The festival will display several notable Peruvian plants such as:
• Puya raimondii (Queen of the Andes): The world's largest bromeliad known for its towering flower spikes.
• Passiflora venusta: A vibrant pink and purple passionflower species.
• Browningia hertlingiana (Blue Cereus): A cactus native to Peru's dry forests.
• Costus vargasii (Spiral Ginger): Recognized for its striking red inflorescence and spiraling growth pattern.
• Pamianthe peruviana (Giant Peruvian Daffodil): An epiphytic plant producing large fragrant white flowers.
