Join one of our favorite runners, Kevin McCaffrey, on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 6:45am at Holmes Lake, meeting by the ballfields. He will be running from 70th St. to the dock area just past the observatory and back to 70th. Part road and part limestone until about 5:15pm. Runners are welcome to join him from the start point whenever he comes by!
We will be collecting money this month to support Lynette Russell with her travel to Italy to represent Nebraska in the Special Olympics World Winter Games! Here is a bio about Lynette and her journey:
I am very humbled and excited to have been asked to represent Nebraska during the Final Leg at the Special Olympics Winter World Games. I am looking forward to meeting the athletes and other law enforcement officers throughout the world who are passionate about Special Olympics. I have been involved with the Law Enforcement Torch Run for approximately 26 years. This consists of raising money and awareness for the Nebraska Special Olympics, which includes organizing and participating in different events throughout the years. Some of the events include Cop on Top, Tip a Cop, the Polar Plunge, and numerous others. I believe I have been on around 26 actual Torch Runs, which back in the day, a group of law enforcement officers used to run the torch across the state, beginning in Scotts Bluff and ending at the opening ceremony in Omaha. Carrying the torch through the different cities in Italy will be an amazing and beautiful experience and I am very grateful for this opportunity. I will also be participating in the Polar Plunge in Italy, which is a fundraiser for Special Olympics, as well as assisting with organizing the Lincoln Polar Plunge, which is on February 15th at Holmes Lake, which is a fundraiser for Nebraska Special Olympics. This month we will also offer $30 for a full day of Gameplay while Kevin runs, with half of the proceeds going towards Lynette's trip to Italy for special olympics Nebraska! There will be cornhole, 2 disc golf, 2 yard dice, 2 jenga, 3 lawn darts, 3 beer pong, and 3 XL beerpong with water!
Please join Kevin as he continues his monthly mission for our local community! Kevin loves running and wants to share his purpose and mission that is so much bigger than his own training! He loves to go above his perceived capabilities to support those in our local community.
Kevin will hold a challenge each month to push his limits and gather donations for a new non profit to support!
