Ken Wilcox- Boots on Fire

In Boots on Fire: Mountain Adventures of a Restless Duffer, lifelong trailster, mountaineer and local guidebook author Ken Wilcox sums up five decades and thousands of miles of adventuring across the wildlands of North America. Stories range from the whimsical to inspiring, from the Pacific NW to Alaska and Mexico, along the coasts, across the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts, into the red rock canyons, and aloft to some of the most beautiful summits of the Cascades, Olympics, Sierras, Rockies and Appalachian Mountains.

Though he was born in the Mojave Desert, Ken Wilcox's life path inevitably led northward, first to Utah, then to Western Washington while still a teenager. It was here that he discovered mountaineering in the unmatched wilderness of the North Cascades Range. Through much joy and a few hard lessons, he came know the region as well as anyone. He was co-founder of the Bellingham Mountaineers and its climbing program in 1983, and for decades has volunteered for numerous parks, trails and wilderness groups.

Ken is the author of Hiking Whatcom County, similar guides to Snohomish and Island Counties, as well as Ultimate DC, a fooster's travel guide to Washington, DC. He has hiked, biked, paddled, climbed and wandered aimlessly from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego and from Maine to Mexico.
