About this Event
Come along to the Common Room for our Valentine's book club of great discussion and themed refreshments. New and experienced readers are welcome, and if you come for 6 months during the 24/25 academic year you receive a free gift!
As this is our Valentine's Special, we will be running a bookmark painting event alongside our usual book club. Come along to design your own beautiful bookmarks - to keep or gift to a loving friend! All supplies and stencils provided alongwith our Valentine's drinks and snacks.
Don't worry if you don't manage to finish the book or don't like it - if anything, this makes for interesting conversation! In future months, you will be able to suggest books and vote for the next month's book. Read below to find out more about February's book and where you can get a copy!
Book of the Month: Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton
Description: A celebration of our female friendships, of our messy years, and of growing up together. Glittering with wit, heart, and humour, it’s a book to share with every woman you’ve ever been lucky enough to call a friend.
“Nearly everything I know about love, I've learnt from my long-term friendships with women.”
I know that love can be loud and jubilant. It can be dancing in the swampy mud and the pouring rain at a festival and shouting “YOU ARE AMAZING” over the band. It’s laughing until you wheeze. It’s walking along the street together on a Saturday night and feeling an entire city is yours.
I also know that love is a pretty quiet thing. It’s lying on the sofa together drinking coffee, talking about where you’re going to go that morning to drink more coffee. It’s folding down pages of books you think they’d find interesting.
I know that love happens under the splendour of fireworks and sunsets, but also happens when you’re lying on blow-up airbeds in a childhood bedroom, sitting in A&E or in the queue for a passport.

Where Can I Get A Copy?
Local Libraries: If you are a resident in Glasgow, you are entitled to sign up for a GlasgowLife library card. This gives you access to all GlasgowLife libraries across the city. You can sign up by visiting your local library and taking along proof of address. We can provide this at reception if you need it. Your nearest GlasgowLife library is Partick Library, Dumbarton Road. The Mitchell Library is also included in this.
University Library: Your university or college will have a library that you should have access to. You may wish to borrow from there instead of a GlasgowLife library, and they might have a different selection of books available.
Independent Bookshops: We are lucky to have some amazing independent bookshops in Glasgow! Some of my favourites are:
- Category is Books, 34 Allison Street
- Bigglestones Books, 57 Glassford Street
- Good Press, 32 St. Andrew's Street
- Hyndland Bookshop, 143 Hyndland Road
Waterstones: There are two Waterstones in the city centre of Glasgow (Sauchiehall Street and Argyle Street) and one in the West End (Byres Road). These are large bookshops with cafes inside. Alternatively, you can find the book on their website and have it delivered to Kelvin Court.
Amazon: Of course, you can buy the book on Amazon and have it delivered straight to Kelvin Court reception!
Please let us know in advance if you have any allergies or dietary requirements.
If you have any questions at all, please send an email to [email protected] or come down to reception. We look forward to seeing you all!
