Alternating between Kellis performance of her rock and roll compositions accompanied by her band (Gerald Dowd, Liam Davis & Leslie Beukelman), some of the citys top comics (Casey Alltop, Eunji Kim, Meg Johns, Bridget Frodyma and Marla Caceres) use the proceeding songs subject matter to create comic improvisation. A set of stand up comedy by Eunji Kim and Chelsea Hood opens the show. The next performance of The MomCore show, if you happen to be so lucky, is on Feb 15th at Fitzgeralds in Berwyn, ILKelli Owens Hutton made a record called Soccer Trophy and in the processcreated a genre called MomCore. Soccer Trophy is brutal truth. Two minuteguitar driven rock and roll songs about children, middle-age, marriage and allthe shit. Its also funny, revealing and moving.Kelli partnered with Grammy-nominated (in childrens music, but still...) producerLiam Davis. They made the record in her Chicago home studio, aka the laundry room.A multi-instrumentalist Kelli played every instrument except the drums. Ok, sheplayed bass on like half the songs too.A Berklee College Of Music grad and major-label wash out (Atlantic records butwhos counting) Kelli took a long time off making music to raise her kids. They area pain in the ass but she loves them anyway.
