KCM Presents Pop Ukulele and Multicultural Folk Dance in Elementary Music

This workshop will be in 2 sections.

The first portion, presented by Jaime Verkuilen, will explore different ways to use the ukulele in the elementary music classroom. There will be a specific emphasis on pop music on ukulele.

The second portion, presented by Catherine Gengler, will explore folk dance repertoire from a variety of traditions and cultures. We will also discuss resources for finding additional dance repertoire, and address how cultural context can be introduced and discussed with early elementary learners. This workshop will support participants in developing strategies for teaching folk dance to early elementary learners and adapting folk dance repertoire for a variety of ages and movement skill levels.
