Kazdoura Residency at DROM Taberna

Kazdoura is taking Drom Taberna over for a 3-dates residency with a different opening act for each date.

Kazdoura is a Toronto based music group that presents Arabic fusion. The project was founded by Leen and Johnny in the summer of 2020. It started as performing some of the Arabic classics, but in a modern and re-invented style.
Leen is a newcomer artist from Syria her passion for classical Arabic music led her to collaborate with many artists from different musical backgrounds in order to revive this music and introduce it to the diverse communities in canada

When Leen met multi-instrumentalist (guitarist and saxophonist) Johnny, he was very enthusiastic to learn and play songs from his Arabic background. Together they fused old Arabic songs (some over 50 to 100 years old) with many musical influences such as blues, funk and jazz.

Kazdoura has been performing extensively in Toronto. They had a 3-month residency at a venue called “The Oud and The Fuzz” where they built a strong and supportive community. They performed at the Palestinian Film Festival, taste of the middle east festival and many notable venues in Toronto such as Drom Taberna and recently they performed in Montreal.

• June 12 - Illarra Trio

Illarra is a Toronto based singer songwriter who is deeply invested in the beauty of folklore and traditional Arabian music and the soulfulness of the Sufi music. He has been working on rearranging and reimagining those tunes to introduce to the local scene. Recently, he has been doing a lot of fusion music, either Arabic Jazz or Flamenco, and has been loving the experience of combining the charm of these worlds where East meets West in harmony. He has been a part of multiple shows and concerts as a singer from the UAE, Saudi Arabia. Kuwait, to Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Vancouver.

• June 19 - João Leão Duo

Toronto based Brazilian musician and producer João Leão brings a fresh perspective to the most iconic Brazilian genre, performing classical gems from the Bossa Nova repertoire. With a smooth voice and transitioning between the piano and the acoustic guitar, João presents the depth of his lifetime research on the two founding fathers of the genre, Antonio Carlos Jobim and João Gilberto. João brings the creative energy of Brazil's contemporary independent music scene, having participated in over 30 albums and toured extensively with important Brazilian indie artists. João has a wealth of experience on the international stage, having toured for over two years with two-time Latin Grammy Award winner Céu and performing at prestigious festivals such as Rock in Rio, the Montreal Jazz Festival, and MIMO.

• July 3 - Paula Sofia

Paula Sofía is a Guatemalan singer-songwriter based in Toronto. Her music and live performances are rooted in storytelling, forming playful connections with the audience from the stage.
