In The Apothecary's Wife, Karen Gevritz recounts the history of medicine; how it was applied in the home and was, generally, the responsibility of the women in a community to heal people. With modern marketing initiaitives, though, a straying away from home- and community-based medical practices has resulted in the commodification of the healthcare industry.
