About this Event
Southwest Lutheran Church is excited to host the second annual Karen Cultural Festival on Saturday, May 30, at 5120 Homestead Rd. Fort Wayne. The hours of the event are from 12 noon to 6 p.m.
The Karen people come from Southeast Asia and form part of Fort Wayne’s population of refugees from Burma, now call the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. The event will feature personal stories, traditional Don Dance with dancers in stunning clothing, Karen artifacts, art, games, clothing, educational experiences, and authentic and delicious Karen food. The festival is free; although, the food, clothing, and other Karen items will be available for a nominal cost.
The event is ideal for anyone interested in the stories of immigrant refugees or the cultures of Southeast Asia, but would
be especially helpful for teachers, public servants, business owners, employers, neighbors, and anyone who regularly interacts with refugees or their families.
Proceeds raised will be used to support the work of Lutheran Agency for Mission to the Burmese (LAMB) and the outreach ministry of Pastor Soe Moe, a Karen Lutheran pastor who serves as a missionary and youth leader in Fort Wayne.
