Kansas City Drum Tribe Full Moon Drum Circle
Join us for a community-centered Full Moon Drum Circle on Sundays near the full moon, May through September, with a possible October date TBD if weather allows.
Dates:
May 31 - on the full moon
June 28 - 1 day after the full moon
July 26 - 3 days before the full moon
August 30 - 2 days after the full moon
September 27 - 1 day after the full moon
Possible October date TBD - weather permitting
Time: 6:00-9:30 p.m.
The bridge closes at 10:00 p.m., so we will need to be packed up and fully off the bridge by then.
Location: First floor, far end of the Bridge, past the restaurants. Photos showing where we will gather are included in the event description.
Weather and comfort note:
All dates are subject to cancellation due to adverse weather unless Rock Island Bridge is able to provide us with a covered space. The area where we gather has metal chairs and is on cement, so please prepare for the heat of the day to linger on the bridge. Bring water, dress for the weather, and be mindful of your own temperature and comfort needs.
This circle is intended to be healing, fun, rhythmic, respectful, and community-focused. We are gathering to create shared rhythm, not individual performance.
A mindful drum circle is an inclusive sanctuary where love and mutual respect form the heartbeat of the tribe. The shape of the circle symbolizes equality and community. While we value shared participation over hierarchy, this circle will have clear hosts who serve the group consciousness and help protect the space.
The heart of this circle is listening, blending, leaving space, and building something together.
Core intention
This circle is rooted in:
Deep listening
Ego-free participation
Supportive shared rhythm
Mindful movement
Respect for instruments
Respect for the group
Clear, substance-free connection
Community over performance
Principles over personalities
Who this group is for
This group is for people who want to participate in a respectful, collaborative drum circle where the rhythm belongs to everyone. You are welcome whether you are experienced, brand new, dancing, listening, or learning.
This circle is for people who are willing to:
Listen before joining in
Find the pulse and support the shared rhythm
Play at a volume where they can still hear others
Leave space instead of playing constantly
Allow the music to breathe
Follow breaks, stops, and changes in the rhythm
Ask before touching or playing someone else’s instrument
Remove rings, watches, or bracelets before playing hand drums
Keep shakers, bells, whistles, and other high-pitched instruments gentle and minimal
Leave the center of the circle open for dancers and movement
Step away for phone calls, side conversations, or device use
Step back, adjust, or receive feedback with respect
Care more about the group sound than personal attention
Who this group is not for
This circle may not be a good fit for anyone who wants to dominate the rhythm, play over others, turn the circle into a solo performance, or take up more than their share of the musical space.
This group is not for people who are unwilling to adjust their volume, tempo, instrument choice, language, or behavior when it is affecting the group.
It is also not the right container for heavy intoxication, disruptive call-outs, attention-seeking performance, harassment, intimidation, disrespect toward hosts or participants, or behavior that makes others feel crowded out, unsafe, unheard, or unwelcome.
Everyone is welcome in spirit, but not every behavior belongs in every circle. This gathering is being created with a strong intention: listening over ego, respect over volume, and community over performance.
Hosts and community care
This circle will be hosted by Jessica Snyder and Jo Burke with special support from Marcus Rattler and of course Rock Island
Jessica can be identified by her short brown/purple mullet.
Jo can be identified by her short blond spiky hair.
If you experience harassment, feel unsafe, or feel that someone’s behavior needs to be addressed or “vibe-checked,” please bring it to Jessica or Jo immediately. Do not wait until after the circle if something needs attention in the moment.
The hosts are not here to control the music. They are here to serve the group, protect the container, and help make sure this remains a respectful, welcoming, and safe space for the whole community.
Printed guidelines
These guidelines will also be available in print at each circle so everyone has a clear understanding of the container we are creating together.
Participation in this circle means agreeing to respect the space, the hosts, the instruments, the dancers, the drummers, and the group rhythm.
If someone is disruptive, disrespectful, harassing others, repeatedly ignoring feedback, or creating an unsafe or unwelcome environment, they may be asked to step away from the circle, leave the Rock Island Bridge gathering, and/or be removed from the Kansas City Drum Tribe group page.
This boundary exists for the good of the whole circle. We want a space where people can return, bring friends, bring family, feel safe, dance, drum, listen, learn, and belong.
Bring a drum if you have one, bring water, bring something comfortable to sit on if you need it, and bring your willingness to listen, blend, and help build a rhythm that feels good for the whole circle.
