The trio of Jim Kalabokis, Fred Story, and Larry Zenk returns to the Box Factory stage Saturday, January 24 from 7 to 9PM with their eclectic program of popular music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and including originals.Tickets in advance at Kalabokis, Story & Zenk are $15 general admission or $20 at the door. Free admission for children 12 and under. A cash bar will be available.
A veteran guitarist, singer, and songwriter, Jim Kalabokis has been performing for audiences since the 1980s. With musical influences ranging from Dylan, the Beatles, Neil Young, Paul Simon, Johnny Cash, and Tom Petty, his extensive catalogue of classic rock and folk spans over 50 years. In addition to performing as a solo acoustic artist, Jim was also the founding member and chief songwriter for the original Folk-Rock band, The Basiks and occasionally performs with the Chicago-based classic rock band, The Shades.
Acoustic guitarist and singer-songwriter Larry Zenk adds depth and harmony to the group. He has performed widely in SW Michigan and outstate, including at the Acorn Theater, at which he has twice been a finalist in their songwriting contest. He has also hosted open-mic nights at the Box Factory, the Livery, and the Acorn. He has often teamed with Fred Story and now with the trio.
Fred Story adds a special quality to the trio with vocals and, rare these days, upright bass. He is also known to contribute stories and a joke or two. He has often teamed with Zenk and others to play widely in SW Michigan and outstate.
Together, Kalabokis, Story, and Zenk host Wednesday Open Mic at the Box and are otherwise deeply invested in local musical life.
