Kala Festival 2026: Rhythms of Ragas & of Feet
About this Event
On 23 September we return to The Bhavan with Rhythms of Ragas & of Feet, our third Kala Festival concert on Castletown Road after Concert for Harmony & Peace in 2023 and Echoes of Tradition in 2025. The evening splits in two. Hindustani instrumental music first, then Kathak.
Pandit Debasis Chakroborty plays Indian slide guitar in the Senia-Maihar line of Pandit Brij Bhushan Kabra, and teaches as Associate Professor of Music at Mangalayatan University. He played here in 2023 and 2025, and taught a slide guitar workshop at The Bhavan that same September.
Ustad Akram Khan is the seventh generation of his family to play tabla in the Ajrada Gharana. He learned from his great-grandfather Ustad Mohammad Shafi Khan, then from Ustad Niazu Khan, and teaches more than fifteen of the gharana's classic kaydas. He shared the 2025 bill here in a memorable tabla duet.
Alokparna Guha dances Kathak after the interval. She trained under Dr Malabika Mitra and works across the Jaipur and Lucknow styles. This is the first Kathak we have brought to The Bhavan.
Doors open at 6.45 pm. Full running order to follow.
